Lately...

I haven't been as good with blogging this summer as I should have been, but I needed a little hiatus for a while. Things were super busy. Mike with school, me with photo shoots. We haven't slowed down in the slightest, but I think I'm ready to be back to blogging regularly.

We've been doing pretty well lately. Mike is entering the final stretch of school, with only a year, 18 months left. Yay! It has been a long, hard road, and we can't wait to move on. I'm so proud of what he's been able to accomplish with all the massive obstacles he's had to face. He's already had several job offers in recent months with people who want to hire him when he's a bit closer to graduation, so that's been encouraging!

As for me, it's the same old stuff! I did my first wedding in August, which I was pretty nervous for, but as soon as I got there, as my mom puts it, my "photographer mode" kicked in, and I realized I had no reason to be worried because not only were the bride and groom awesome to work with, but I know what I'm doing. It was a long day, but so much fun! I've already booked two more weddings during Christmas break, so things aren't slowing down anytime soon with everything that comes along with weddings and mixing a bunch of family shoots in. I love it though. I'm so blessed to be able to have a job which also happens to be my passion.

We've also been hanging out with Mike's family a lot, which has been amazingly fun. It's so nice to live this close to them. We picked Sabrina and her family up at the airport today (they went to Disneyland this week...with the exception on Nate), and while Mike and I were sitting the in park and wait, we let Nate out of the carseat for a bit.
Yes, we were supporting our Cougars deep in Ute territory. On game day. Surrounded by cars sporting Ute paraphernalia. It was awesome. We start 'em young. We are a Blue Blooded family. Here's to hoping we get some revenge for last year. Go Cougars!

Summer in Review

I can't believe July is almost over! This summer has gone way, way too fast. We've been so busy it seems there has been no time to breathe. Thank goodness everything has slowed down for a week or so, but as soon as the second week of August hits, it picks right back up, starting with a wedding I'm photographing. Here's a quick recap of what we've been up to lately. I'll post pictures later when I am on the computer that has them. (By the way, that's my father-in-law still rocking the water skis at 57!)

-Amanda and David came to visit for two weeks the beginning of this month
-Island Park lake house trip with Mike's family (best lake trip to date!!)
-Lots of time spent running (me)
-Lots of time spent doing schoolwork (Mike)
-Lots of time spent doing things with friends
-Photo shoots, what's new?
-Date nights

August should bring just as many adventures, if not more, seeing as how we are in the middle of planning a getaway with another couple we're really good friends with. In the meantime, it is nice to finally have time to relax, clean house, and attempt to get caught up on the massive amount of photo editing I have to do.

Quail Fire on the Fourth of July

I have so much blogging to catch up on it's not even funny! But, that probably won't happen until later in the month when things slow down a TINY bit.

David and Amanda are down visiting until the 11th, so it has been a busy past week. Yesterday we took advantage of the holiday and slept in (no construction going on right outside, yay!), then went and saw Spiderman, which we loved! Since none of us were feeling up to fighting the crowds in Provo for the fireworks, Mike and David played a little Xbox at home while Amanda and I headed up to Alpine to watch the glow of the flames from the Quail Fire. It was incredible to watch, and as Mike puts it, "terrifyingly beautiful." There were several close family friends that nearly lost their homes, one lost their barn (which was sad because they let me and my sister in law go do photo shoots up there). More pictures of it are coming soon, when I have a little more time!

Anyway, I'm off to go running! Hope everyone had a fantastic Fourth!

We Just Keep Getting Busier!

This last week has consisted of waking up early, going on a long walk with a group of friends, running off to meetings/errands, come home, drop things, grab something else, run out the door again, come back a few hours later, do the same thing, run off to a photo shoot, get home around 8/8:30-ish, finally eat, crawl into bed too exhausted to go run my 2-3 miles, then wake up early the next morning and do it all over again! I do love being busy, BUT I have hardly seen Mike the last few days, have have had absolutely no time to get a good workout in, neither of which I'm a big fan of. Thank goodness next week isn't looking as busy...at least until next Friday! Then, it starts ALL over again for a few days. Isn't it fantabulous? In the meantime, here's a look at just one of my shoots from this week:
Two of the cutest kiddos I know! I think their mom and I had more fun than they did! (Why does that not suprise me?!?)

Ensign Peak

I just thought I would share the view I got to enjoy yesterday during a bridal shoot! I can't wait to post the pictures of the bride, but you'll have to wait until August 11. I will give you two hints as to the dress: big train, and it's white. :) We got some amazing shots, despite the 93 degree heat and the wind that came up the last 30 minutes! She is so excited to get married, and I LOVED working with her because not only was she easy to please, but let me get as creative as I wanted! She and her fiancee are so cute together. I did their engagements a few weeks ago, which I will post once I find the time! I can't wait to shoot their wedding in August! I think I may have to take a trip back to Ensign Peak soon and hike all the way to the top and shoot a sunset, because it is a view that cannot be beat!

Summer Fun

Ah! I have been horrible with posting lately. I've been so busy I've barely had time to think, let alone blog! We both just got over being sick again, what's new with that though? The only problem with me, was it was another double whammy. Food poisoning again (which equated to a night of hell throwing up every hour, on the hour) on top of a sore throat and a nasty chest cold.

We are kinda happy summer is in full swing around these parts. Bring on the sun, water, boating, trips, hiking, and all the other fun adventures it brings! We have SO much going on this summer it seems! I thought last year was busy with Europe and all, but I think we may have it beat this year. We've got a few trips planned up to the house in Island Park, along with that comes trips hopefully to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone - places which were practically my backyard growing up! I'm also planning on introducing the in-laws to Mesa Falls, a place they didn't know existed, let alone was so close to the house until I told them about it a few weeks ago. Maybe I can even get them to swing up to Targhee on our way to/from Jackson...hopefully the hubs and I can make a trip up there this winter so he can experience my old stomping grounds (I may or may not have skipped school to go boarding up there a sometimes during high school, just sayin'). Then, we're also lining up a cruise to the Eastern Carribbean (aka Virgin Islands), and then there's always the usual weekend escapes to Park City. To top it all off, Mike's in school for summer semester, and I've got the usual photo shoots going on, girl's dates, etc. So, I guess we're staying pretty busy!

Okay, enough talk, on to a few photos. :)
We tagged along with Sabrina to help with the Kiddos while she did pictures for Ben's birthday coming up. And by kiddos, I mean Nate.
This kid LOVES his Uncle Mikee, or 'Kikee", as he calls him. When he sees me without Mike, he comes running up to me and goes, "Kikee? Kikee?" and when I tell him he's home, he goes, "Oh. Kikee? Kikee??". That kid can't get enough of Mike. I think Mike's pretty fond of him too. ;-)
Typical Nate...running the OPPOSITE way when his Mom tries to get him to stand still for two seconds to get a shot in.
Typical as well. Mike with the kids close behind. I love how he loves kids so much! I can't wait to see what he'll be like as a Dad when that day comes.
The Supermoon the night before Easter.
I went up to Sundance with a close friend of mine on a girl's day photowalk, and this guy was sitting on the ground, and was content to let me get REALLY close and snap away for a few minutes. I was seriously only about 3 feet away. I could have gotten closer, but I didn't have a macro lens on, dang it!
Few things stop me in the middle of my tracks, this was one of them. I don't know why, but I loved it and the feelings it evoked in myself. Can I just say I'm proud to have Cherokee heritage? (My great-great grandfather was full-blooded, I'm 1/8.)

Anyway, that's what's been happening around these parts! Ciao!

Mother's Day and Fast Sundays

I know over the last 18 months, I've talked about our infertility and miscarriages a lot. Partly because when I write, it helps me process and come to terms with things easier than it does if I don't talk about it, and partly because I know there are other couples with similar, if not the same, issues, and I know how much it helps me to know there are those who know what it's like, even if I don't know them personally. I just hope that I can help others by being as open as I can about things. Let's face it. It's hard not talk or think about it a lot to when it's something you have to face each and every day you wake up. Especially this time of year, as we are approaching Mother's Day.

Call me a pessimist, call me whatever you will, but I'm not going to lie and pretend infertility is a walk in the park. Last year at this time, I was about to recieve news I had had my second miscarriage in four months. And to top it all off, Mother's Day is Sunday, which isn't exactly something I've looked forward to since Mother's Day 2009. All it's become to me is just another reminder of what we've lost, and the heartache we've experienced. And it doesn't help when others come up to me and say, "Even though you're not a mother yet, Happy Mother's Day!" Seriously?!? That's about one of the worst things you could say to someone in our situation, because I DO consider myself a mother! I've lost not one, but THREE children in pregnancy. Children that were my own flesh and blood, children that were a part of me, were living human beings. Children that I loved, and still love, with all my heart, even though I didn't carry full-term. So please, don't tell me I'm a not mother yet, because I am. Needless to say, Mother's Day isn't exactly my favorite day of the year right now. I guess you could say I have the Mother's Day Blues right about now..

I don't exactly enjoy Fast Sundays anymore either. Let me explain. First of all, our ward is Storkville Central, and it's not uncommon to have 2 or more baby blessings each Fast Sunday. Secondly, with Mike being as sick as he is, it means he doesn't make it to church every week like he would like to, which in turn means I'm going at it alone quite a bit. Let me just say that in and of itself isn't exactly easy. Every Sunday I wake up and think it would be so much easier to roll over, go back to sleep, and forget about church, but I force myself to get up. Yesterday was one of those Sundays for me, especially since it was Fast Sunday, and I knew there would be a baby blessing or two. But, I still made myself go.

Sure enough, there were two baby blessings. One of the families I was excited for, because they've had infertility issues as well, and their baby girl was nothing short of a miracle. However, for some reason, the other baby blessing was tough for me to get through. I struggled through the rest of Sacrament to hold back a river of tears. By time the closing prayer was done, I couldn't keep myself together much longer, and made a beeline for the door. Mike heard me walk in when I got home and came walking out with his arms wide open, knowing all too well what was going on. As I ran into his arms, the flood of tears came.

We ended up back in bed not too long after, since I was such a wreck, and he just sat there and held me and cuddled for what ended up being about four hours, not once complaining or even mentioning how sick he was feeling. I love that man! He looked at me at one point and said, "Neither of us are going to Sacrament meeting on Fast Sunday anymore if both of us can't go. It's too hard to go at it alone, especially with baby blessings." I couldn't agree with him more. Think and say what you will, but when you come home immediately after Sacrament meeting (sometimes I've only made it until after the Sacrament) in tears each Fast Sunday for the past few months, then you'd understand. Especially if you're husband is too sick to even make it to church, and you're going alone. It kind of defeats the purpose of going to church if you come home feeling like you just got hit by a train, feel like you can barely breathe, and are completely and totally crushed. Don't get me wrong, I love church and I love Sacrament meeting especially Fast Sundays, but the baby blessings, not so much. But, I am so grateful for a spouse who recognizes and understands this and is there with open arms. There's no way I could do this without him. :-)

*On a side note, we've been pretty busy around here - trip to Idaho, lots of photo shoots and TIGHT deadlines, finals, new semester, etc. Life isn't about to slow down this summer either! More on all this soon!

Life Lately

I know my posts have been pretty sporatic lately, but life happens! We're finally sickness-free and gearing up for a trip to Idaho to see the fam! It is going to be a busy trip. Three portrait/family shoots and I'm photographing Sugar-Salem's Distinguished Young Women program (formerly called America's Jr. Miss) on Friday and Saturday! Then, the day after we get back, I have yet another event booked. It's gonna be a crazy week and a half, but oh so fun!

I am so excited to have the opportunity to photograph Sugar's DYW program! This year's group of girls were the first group we did when my mom and I started the new Be Your Best Self activity when I was Jr. Miss! I can't believe they were in sixth grade then, and are now doing the program! Time FLIES! Has it already been five years? Sheesh! I can't say it enough, (and strongly believe) EVERY high school girl that has the chance (in her Junior year) should participate in this program! It certainly changed my life, and I met so many amazing women and gained amazing friends through participating. I always tell girls even if I hadn't won I would have had no regrets and would still tell them to participate. Winning was just a HUGE added bonus! Okay, enough of my soapbox. I could ramble on about the program and the BYBS platform for days. :-) In the meantime, here's a look at how gorgeous Spring has been this year! I can't get enough of it! I am in no hurry for the 90+ degree heat of summer.

*C* Family Portraits

It has been an absolutely gorgeous spring this year! I'm loving this weather. Last week I got the chance to photograph this adorable family! They are moving to Oregon this weekend and wanted pictures done before they left, so we squeezed some time in before finals hit for them!

I loved these two! They were so cute and so much fun to work with!

Mr. J decided he had had enough of Mom and Dad kissing him after about two frames!

Life Lately & *J* and *M* Family Portraits

We have been pretty busy around these parts lately. Some of it fun, some of it, well, not so fun. Photo shoots are starting to pick up for me, Mike is approaching final exams, and we're both getting over being sick. The last two weeks have been especially sickness-ridden. Mike with a cold and sore throat, and me with a nasty cold, strep, AND bronchitis, all hitting at the same. time. It has been great fun. Highly recommended. *Cough, cough.* I was cursing the late bronchitis season this year, and the fact I was not lucky enough to escape it like last year (it's the one sickness I have always caught faster than a wildfire). Who wants to be stuck in bed for a week and a half when it's sunny and eighty degrees outside? Not me!

Unfortunately, this meant I was sick during General Conference, and wasn't able to get much out of it because I was so sick and pumped full of medicine. So, I don't remember much, sadly. But from the few talks I do remember, it was great, as usual! I'm so glad they post the talks online so soon! But, we're *finally* on the mend! In the meantime, here's some pictures of a few of the shoots I've had this last month...just a few!
 Thr *J* Family.
Their little guy - Mr. C we'll call him - was so easy to get smiles from, and so cute!
The *M* family. I actually went to high school with her, and love her and her little guy! I'm so blessed to have a friend like her. :-)
Mr. E knows how to show off for the camera! It doesn't help that his mom is a photographer too of course!
Mr. E saw a someone who had balloons, and managed to work his charm in getting one from them. He was pretty proud of himself too! One of his favorite movies is UP, so naturally, he LOVES balloons!
I've been loving the Spring flowers!

April is shaping up to be even busier! I've managed to book every weekend for photo shoots, some during the week, and we have a trip to Idaho at the end of the month, where I have even more shoots lined up while we're up there, including a two day long event (it's a 90% sure thing, I'm just waiting to hear the final confirmation by the end of the week! So excited!). So, if you see me at the end of the month with a slight crazy glint to my eyes, you'll know why. ;-)

Jada and Amanda's Portraits

The week before Jada went into the MTC, she, my mom, and Amanda came down to visit! Of course we had to fit in a photo shoot, so here are just a few of the shots.
There are a ton more, but I figured I won't overload this post with them.. I did have a hard time choosing which ones to post and which ones not to! The last shot of Amanda is one of my favorites of the day. I can't believe how fast she is growing up! She'll be *dating* in a few years.. Unless I have something to say about it! ;)
